I have painted my garden doors, we are renovating our mudroom to something more practical. I will take pictures of that when we start( end of October )

My new project is doing my husband's office/den . Nothing has been really done to it for the past 3 years, so I think its time for him to have a proper place to work in. I started painting today, and hopefully will be done by tomorrow eve. Of course I chose Benjamin Moore paint, wouldnt use any other paint. My choices in colors were Rattan, Northampton Putty, and Alexandria Beige, all in benjamin moore paint. To my surprise unlike the pics I saw on the internet, Rattan ended up being an almost a true Gold color. I was expecting green really. I new I was not going for that , it is still a nice rich color but not the look I was going for. It was between the Beige and the Putty. I choose the Northampton Putty because it was really nice against the coffee colored roman bamboo blinds. Those were newly put up and a steal I think for 39.99 each. They were ordered through sears online and very nicely done. The quality is unlike the typical bamboo blinds you find out there. They are lined to the street, and have a nice valance. Anyway, Alexandria Beige was nice as well, but with the overall look I as trying to accomplish ,the putty won. I love the color

Christmas Decorating Underway....

Here are some pictures of my Christmas decor. I am not nearly done. The tree needs some more baubles, and the mantle is missing some stuff . My goal is to visit Pineridge Hollow in the next week and pick up some items like twinkle lights and maybe some fake twiggy stuff for my vase to match the sofa table arrangement. Home Sense is another store I love that Im sure will have some Christmas items I may want to get my hands on.

Moravian Star Pendant

I absolutely love the Moravian star pendant. It is traditionally from the 1800's and is said to bring luck to the family. I am thinking of replacing our oh -hum-drum of a light in our foyer/hallway with this beauty. I believe I saw them at home depot made by Hampton Bay Lighting. This will give a wow factor upon entering our great room...lets see if hubby approves. I bet he wont like it, until he really sees it. Men don't have the vision, lol.

I know we still have yet to pass Halloween, but my mind is in full swing with christmas decorating. I was passed down a high quality white christmas tree from my mom. It was bought through sears possibly over 20 years ago..Its beautiful really. Every year I come up with a theme at my house..This year I decided to put up the white tree as my main tree in the great room filled with vintage colorful ornaments. The green one will most likely be downstairs in the recroom, with all the ornaments of the kids ect...I dont really have a collection of vintage glass ones....so I am now on the hunt for some.

Chile Rescues Workers Break Through to Trapped Miners

Oct. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Chilean rescue workers broke through into a chamber half a mile underground today where 33 miners have been trapped for more than two months.

A crowd made up of hundreds of foreign and local journalists, family members and government officials erupted into cheers and chanted “Long Live Chile” as alarm bells signalled that the drill had broken through at 8:05 a.m. local time.

“It’s unbelievable; it’s an emotion you can’t explain,” said Jeff Hart, an operations manager at Layne Christensen, a drilling company assisting in the efforts. “It was extremely hard, harder than we expected.”

Authorities will spend about six hours today preparing for the rescue site before running a camera down the shaft to determine if the well is stable enough to pull the men out without first lining the walls with a metal casing, Mining Minister Laurence Golborne told reporters today at the mine in northern Chile. The minister said yesterday that withdrawal of the miners may begin as soon as Oct. 12.

The miners have been trapped since Aug. 5 after an access tunnel caved in at Cia. Minera San Esteban Primera SA’s San Jose copper and gold mine in the Atacama region. Chilean state-run Codelco, BHP Billiton Ltd. and other mining companies assisted in what has become the world’s longest-ever mine rescue.

Family Members React
Family members and union officials have urged rescue workers to install the casing to ensure the miners’ safety. Trucks with the casing arrived at the mine this morning.

“We’ve waited for two months, we can wait another two days,” Norma Laques, whose son Jimmy Suarez, 19, is the youngest of the trapped miners.

The miners’ only contact with the outside world has been through tiny drill holes into which people on the surface send down food, water, medicine and games such as dominoes.

As engineers prepared the rescue shaft, workers on the surface were rehearsing plans to extract the miners and transport them to a nearby hospital. Medical facilities will be ready by Oct. 11.

The miners are split into three groups. The strongest will come out first in case they are needed to go back down to assist others, the minister said yesterday. The weakest will then come out, with the rest to follow.

Workers will need two or three days to prepare cranes and other equipment for the extraction and as long as eight days if they opt for the casing, Golborne said.

When the rescue starts, a tube 24 inches wide will be lowered into the hole, which measures 26 inches at its narrowest point, Enes Zepeda, an engineer and director of the Codelco’s supervisors’ union, said at an event on Oct. 7. Once they start pulling out the men, it will take about 90 minutes per person to complete the rescue, he said.

Let's pray for these miners and miner's families that they get out safely.....

I waited and waited until the perfect counter stools popped up in the store. These stools I picked up are listed online for $220 CDN (plus shipping of course). Homesense price: $99. What a steal! I bought 2 for my breakfast counter and I just love them. Easy to clean too, because when you have 5 kids ,you never know what may happen. They also swivel, and have metal footrests which is quite nice. I also picked up a cotton table runner for the kitchen and a pair of lamps for the dining room. The lamps didn't look as good as thought on the server...so, going to return them.

What if we made one ourselves? Yes, we'd love to pay them for their craftsmanship, but around the holidays, money can be right and lets say we don't have the $140 bucks lying around to purchase this adorable pom pom rug? So you decide to make one yourself. Here's a quick how to when it comes to pom pom making in case you need a refresher, plus a handy way to keep fingers from getting pinched so the kids can help out!

After your pom poms are created, head to the local craft store to pick up some rug backing. You'll find it near the yarn where you can buy a pre cut size. If you need more, many fabric counters have a bolt in back if you ask for an extra large piece to be cut (if you're feeling daring). Simply tie on your pom poms and that's pretty much all there is to it!

I am back from my 2 week whirl-wind in Italy. I had a fabulous time and visited many relatives. I miss them already and cant wait until the day I return...Dont know when that will be. My kids missed me alot, as I did miss them. My cousin's wedding there was picture perfect. Beautiful food, beautiful setting. We visited Rome, my father's hometown Maiera in Calabria, visited Lanciano in Abruzzo where my uncle lives, Edina where the wedding was held. We went to see Padre Pio's hometown as well. It was very hard to leave , alot of tears....

Going to Italy

My husband and I , along with my sister and my brother-in-law, are flying to Italy for a cousins wedding for 13 days. This is my first trip there, and will be away from my kids the longest ever. There was one other time I was away from them , that was only 2 days ...so, this will be quite the long separation. I am just starting to pack, and still have no dress for this wedding. I am not too worried about it though., I still have time. I'll be packing soaps to give away as gifts and maybe going to buy some chocolates. I think you are allowed chocolates in your luggage but not quite sure.

I got my hair done last night at my favorite new salon Vixin here in Winnipeg. I went red violet and also got some side bangs. This color is very rich and quite vibrant. I really like it.

My husband is more set than me....he needed a suit and slacks, so we purchased them off ebay believe it or not. A Ricky Freeman wool suit that actually fit him with a few alterations , and also a pair of pinstripe Versace pants. He looks hot...Quite the deal too!

Yesterday, I found a tufted linen stool that opens for storage. When I saw it, I just had to have it. Initially, I was trying to find 2 stools to go under my console. I searched high and low in the store for a second one...but couldn't find one. I even asked staff if there was one in the back. They said all the furniture was out, but I still think it was an easy way out so they wouldn't have to actually go and search the back... Anyway..my husband thought it was nice but he tried to keep me from purchasing it (big surprise!) I was determined that this stool was coming home with me...I didn't even know the price yet . I was thinking the stool was $100 since that is sort of the norm for Homesense. I was so surprised that it was actually 69.99 for a stool that size. I bought it thinking I may run into a second stool if I go back and check next time. If I didn't , I could always return it (I only had 10 days ). I am keeping it whether or not I find a second one..I just love it. Thank goodness I didn't listen to my husband!

This morning, my dear Bilbo (a Goldendoodle) found 4 bunnies buried at the side of our yard. He disappeared for nearly 45 minutes outside which is unlike him. I looked out our dining room window only to find dead grass and bunny fur scattered around the yard. Horrified, I quickly ran out expecting the worst.I found him, to my surprise, sitting with his paws crossed, looking proud as ever. He was watching over these babies as if they were his own. Amazing!

You never believe what I saw in the city today....me on a billboard , and on a bus! Well, its not exactly me but, people seem to think it's me! Thanks to this Downtown Peggy in Winnipeg, because I have been getting calls and orders because of it, lol. This is the best advertising ever for me, I dont even have to pay a dime! You see, apparently "Peggy" must have been inspired by my character logo. I am very flattered to say the least and such a compliment I think. She must of liked my business logo so much, she decided to do one for herself. It actually is helping me get my own face out there even though I have had this look for 2 years....People dont know the difference anyway. When I saw my so called face plastered on the huge bullitin board over the diserali overpass, I almost died and take a double take ,"What! Who put my face up there! That's Awsome! Someone decided they love the soap and put my face on there! LOL! Anyway, I is sooo funny...twins! The only way to tell us apart is the beauty mark :)

This seems insignificant,but to me it was a feeling of comfort and love to have mom's feet resting right next to me. New Baby , New Rug

My girlfriend had her baby yesterday. Her name is Julianna, and she weighed 8 pounds 7oz . This is my friend's first child and I know she will make a wonderful mom. And of course, dad Jeff will make a great daddy too.

I also received my rug from Crate and Barrel the other day. I love it and wouldn't change it...It is super soft on your feet and the pile is nice and thick. The quality for the price does not beat what we have here. Great first time experience ordering from them. I took pictures but will post them later today to show you what the rug looks like. I am also happy that I decided on the larger 9 x 12 size, and not 8x10. The 8x10 would have been too small.

Today I am making Sweet Pea Soap, and also going to make some Graham Cracker Scrubs. I am feverishly working away in preparation of the Scattered Seeds Craft Show to boot. Last year, I ran out of body butter so Ill be sure to have plenty on hand.

Ill be bringing donut soaps this year. They were not available last Spring but will be there for sure. Vanilla Sprinkle and Blueberry will be the choices among the donuts. If time permits, I may be able to squeeze in another choice.

I should be getting the Asimi Rug thats pictured above (the brown one on top) any day now, and I'm very nervous and excited about it at the same time. I'm a little worried about colors, size ect...We don't have a Crate and Barrel store here, so I had to order it over the phone. Ive tried many rugs over the years (yes years!) and not one seemed really right for the space. There was one that I settled on months ago, but the rug lady said it was discontinued. Maybe it was a good thing because otherwise I would have been stuck with it. The rug selection here is next to nil in my opinion. My husband thinks that there is alot to select from but I'm picky and the styles that I am looking for ,not everyone likes the style I am looking after. I think hes wrong though...Why cant they have more rugs here that look like the Asimi? Its timeless I think, and the pattern is just right.

Rugs are quite expensive, especially the wool ones. We decided on only getting a wool rug because of the 5 kids and dog. Our dog Bilbo wont even come close to this carpet anyway. He was taught from 8 weeks not to go upstairs (carpeted), and our entire main floor is hardwood. He thinks carpet is a foreign substance.

How to be a Good Neighbour

When attending craft shows, there are some simple things to keep in mind that will make you a better neighbor. Remember that there are others at the event who, like you, are there to make money. To make the best of things you should try to acknowledge the needs and rights of your fellow crafters.

Stay within your allotted space
If your display needs that extra “couple of inches”, buy it from the promoters before the event. Often you will need to purchase a “double” booth or at least an additional half space. Check with the show promoter to see what options you have regarding measurements. If you do not want to incur that added expense, you may need to redesign your display so that it will fit in the space you purchase. Whatever you do, do not extend your display into your neighbor’s space! The quickest way to make an enemy at a show is to steal space from a fellow exhibitor. And it is stealing. When you put your display into another crafter’s booth, you are taking space that someone else has paid for, which is theft, not to mention, rude.

Be friendly, but don’t be a pest
It’s fine to visit with other exhibitors at a show; in fact I love meeting new crafters! But don’t stand around talking if a customer walks in. Remember, craftspeople are there to make money. They can’t do that if someone is continually visiting or blocking customers from viewing their wares.

Give yourself enough time
Setting up a booth at a craft fair takes time. It takes more time for some than for others. Whether it takes you a few minutes or several hours, be sure you allot enough time to finish before the customers arrive. Boxes blocking aisles keep customers from visiting other booths. Even if you are not in the aisles, setting up a display in your space while the show is open distracts customers. This can hurt sales for yourself and your colleagues.

To sum it up, be aware that there are others attending craft events beside yourself. Be courteous to fellow craftspeople and keep in mind that what may work best for you may infringe upon other exhibitors. Too many negative happenings can make enemies of your fellow craftspeople, or even get you banned from a show. By getting along with others, you can sometimes make important contacts and better yet, friends for life!

Here is a candle holder hurricane shade I picked up at a shop in Winnipeg . Its called Slic Chics and its located on Henderson Hwy. It is two pieces...a metal design that sits right inside the glass. Right now, I'm the only one in Winnipeg that has it..not that it matters :) . I found out after I purchased it , it was a part of an exclusive line to Marie Osmond's lifestyle collection. Slic Chics is the only authorized dealer that carries Marie Osmond . Anyway, what caught my eye is that it was different, modern yet classic . It sits on my coffee table

A Work in Progress

This is our great room. This pic was taken a month and a half ago..It looks different right now so, Ill have to load up a recent pic. The table to the right, against the wall was bought at a fantastic store just outside of the city called Pineridge Hollow. I loved it from the moment I first laid eyes on it. It is made of mango wood. It reminds me of some of Restoration Hardware furniture pieces . That lamp on the console is in my den at this moment and replaced with another Pineridge Hollow piece, a gorgeous black lamp. The mirror above the fireplace will be replaced with a piece of art because I bought yet another piece from Pineridge, which is now hung above the console . Its a gorgeous 2 paneled mirror that has circles designed in the panels. Hard to explain but it is simply stunning. I had gone through a few pieces of art to go above that table, but didn't like anything I brought home. I was looking for the "wow"factor, the Ï love it to death"feel. So, I finally found it.

A rug is what we are on the hunt for now...I have been looking for the perfect rug since I moved in (3 years) . I think I have found it but I have to order it online. that's what scares me. We went through a ton of rugs from retailers around here to try out, but did not love anything. The style and colors that i was looking for , we cant seem to find around here. That is what Winnipeg is lacking here... All we have are marshmallow couches and particle board tables. That's why,Pinridge isone of my favorite furniture/home decor retailers. We don't have many that have my particle taste. My taste falls somewhere between Modern Traditional Classic with a pinch of vintage charm. Mmmm, that is interesting!

Colin and Justin

I was watching Colin and Justin's Home Heist yesterday afternoon, and they were talking about eclectic design, which I am quite fond of .This couple's house was filled with a mix of different furniture eras, some were ugly, others were in need of being revamped. There were pee pads thrown everywhere, which was quite disgusting ! Messy and loads of needless clutter. They called it " Hectic Eclectic".

I learned from them this simple rule : K.I.S.S

Keep It Strictly Simple

You cant go wrong if you follow their advice. Being eclectic in style doesn't mean you have to look like a hoarder.

If you haven't tuned in to this show, I highly suggest you make time for it. Not only are they talented designers who know their stuff, they are extremely witty and funny!

Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes

I came across this recipe by a blog named The Sweetest Kitchen. It is definitely yummy, and with Valentine's Day just days away, this is a perfect choice!

Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes Adapted from Nigella Lawson

Makes 12 cupcakes

Ingredients:

125g soft unsalted butter

100g dark chocolate, broken into pieces

300g raspberry jam, seedless if desired

150g caster sugar

pinch of salt

2 large eggs, beaten

150g self-raising flour

Method :Preheat the oven to 180ºC/gas mark 4.
Put the butter in a heavy-bottomed pan on the heat to melt. When nearly completely melted, stir in the chocolate. Leave for a moment to begin softening, then take the pan off the heat and stir with a wooden spoon until the butter and chocolate are smooth and melted. Now add the raspberry jam, sugar, salt and eggs. Stir with a wooden spoon and when all is pretty well amalgamated stir in the flour.
Scrape and pour into the muffin papers in their tin and bake for 25 minutes. Cool in the pan on a rack for 10 minutes before turning out.
Cool cupcakes completely.

Fill cupcakes with raspberry whipped cream using the cone method.

Raspberry Whipped Cream Adapted from Joy of Baking

Makes about 1 cup

Ingredients:

1/2 cup ultra-pasteurized heavy whipping

/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/2 tablespoon granulated white sugar

1/4 cup lightly sweetened raspberry puree, strained if desired

Method; In a large mixing bowl place the whipping cream, vanilla extract, and sugar and stir to combine. Cover and chill the bowl and beaters in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. When chilled, beat only until soft peaks form.

Add the sweetened raspberry puree a little at a time, and beat just until stiff peaks form when the beater is raised.

Taste and fold in more sugar or puree, if required.

If you have any leftover, use it as a topping for a cup of hot cocoa or mocha!

Ganache Frosting Adapted from Nigella Lawson

Makes enough to lightly frost 12 cupcakes

Ingredients:

100g dark chocolate

100ml double cream

12 fresh raspberries, optional

Method: Break the chocolate for the icing into little pieces and add them to the cream in a saucepan. Bring to the boil, remove from the heat and then whisk – by hand or electrically – till thick and smooth. Ice the cupcakes, smoothing the tops with the back of a spoon, and stand a raspberry in the centre of each.

What can I say? Well, busy comes to mind..I sound like a broken record. I have been painting like a mad woman, while all the while making soap . I make soap during the day, and paint at night! Here is the status of our home theater....hubby and I picked up paint from Benjamin Moore Store last Thursday. We finished priming Tuesday, and finished the home theater ceiling color and feature wall last night (at around 12:30 am) . The color I picked out for the feature wall is called Willow CC-542. It is a dark dark black brown, with a grey undertone . Sounds weird but is a beautiful color . That's where the screen comes down , so I wanted a almost black backround . The ceiling is painted a a dark silvery grey that has a brown undertone. Its on the same swatch card , its called Overcoat, CC-544. Its my favorite thus far, it looks irony, metal like. We used benjamin Moore Waterborne ceiling paint. The owner suggested it . I am glad he did! It is a perfect finish, flat and matte ..no streaking, the paint it glorious to put on. Now the walls have to be done, we choose CC-546 Metropolis. Cant wait to put that one. I am the cutter today because I am more steady and can do finicky things. My husband is good at slapping the paint on...

The bar is finally painted and ready for granite. Which by the way, I have to throw in that Hubby wanted a black granite. I said nooooo way, I wasn't going for that one. I wanted Blanco Romano (Bianco?) . I thought light granite would look fabulous with the dark bar. He was not going to let up , but I finally convinced him that light was the way to go . Now he says to me : "Boy I am sure glad that we went with light granite..." Ya, I am so glad I convinced you because it would have been ugly !

So anyway, the bar: We had to redo it because we didn't like the light stained oak look. We bought minwax ebony, and stained it with 2 coats. It was dark but not dark enough. We didn't "love" it . Not the look we were going for. In the very beginning, I wanted the bar painted and not stained. Because is oak, he paint would still show the grain anyway, but HUBBY didn't listen. Now he admits I was correct and now he loves it. :) He wanted Black Black, but I said leave the color up to me . Hiss track record for decor and taste is not so great...Well, its ok some of the time . Anyway, I though the paint color that we used for our front door, remember? It was called Night Shade, also from BM . It look fabulous. It is a rich , warm blackish brown. If anyone is searching for the perfect dark cabinet color, this would be it! This color is a stable in my book.

So, we have to finish the painting by Tuesday because the carpet is scheduled to go in Wednesday. Yes Yes, pictures!! I will pot them today..I have to find that camera of mine!!

My Life Goals, Dreams Include Bono....

Remember when I first started this blog, I listed all my life's goals and dreams? I had a goal to get a goldendoodle (Check!), I had a goal of having a successful business (check!), to kick my husband out of his retail space (um...no check yet)....My ultimate goal would be to attend my first U2 concert and meet my ultimate favorite man in the world, (next to my husband of course, who is always # 1)...BONO. As a young teenager/child I never knew or listened to U2. Only did I ever learn of them was through my husband. I remember going on a our first date to the beach, he played U2. We are 7 years apart , not much of a difference now , but I was 17/18 years old and he was 25 so that is a big difference in my book.

I was hooked the moment I heard U2 , and I am still hooked now. Every time I hear a song from them, it always reminds me of my hubby Mike and the drive to the beach.

I heard they are playing in Montreal, Toronto and Edmonton in 2010. Boy, am I praying they play in Winnipeg. Sure I can travel to Edmonton and see they play......NOT!

Not with 5 little ones tugging on your ankles. What a dream it would be if I met the guy, That would be a dream. In the past, I have written , emailed Oprah, Ellen, Sally Jessie Raphael for pete sakes...don't laugh!!! "Dear Oprah: I know you are best buds with Bono, Could you please make my dreams come true?? Mother of 5 would love to meet him and tell him what an inspiration he is to me and so many people. " yada yada...... No reply back, what a shocker! Same with Ellen Degeneres. (I love her btw) I kid you not, I really did email and write these people. Am I a loser or what??? Honestly, I would just die if I met Bono. I would make a soap in his honour... maybe a rock n roll duckie soap?

Someone else that I really love is Nicolas Cage. He's having some difficulties right now , but I know hell pull through. I know he needs money but all I have is soap. If you need some soap, Ive got plenty of that.

So I guess my plea to Bono is : Bono, I am a young mommy of 5, (well 6 if you count the hubby) who needs a night out. My hubby and I are celebrating 15 years of marriage in 2010 right around the time you will be in Canada. You are the reason we fell in love (well part of the reason) My husband is Irish too...does that help?? Please come to Winnipeg! I know our stadium stinks, its small and you may get west nile ..but I promise you, I am well worth the trouble! :)

Home Theatre Design

Hi Guys, if Im not busy enough, our next project is the basement. As we speak, we are having it taped by someone. Once thats done, we are ready to paint and install carpet. I am trying to decide on a color schem for the home theatre. I will definitely post pics of it . I also forgot to post pics of my front door I painted last summer using Nightshade in benjamin moore Aura Paint , so Ill do that tomorrow. I love benjamin moore! I just finished painting our powder room and masterbath and the paint is amazing! I will be BM in the entire basement.

So far, For the theatre ,I think I am going to go and see what Topeka Brown , Stone Brown, NorthCreek Brown, and Bittersweet Chocolate look like (thats for the walls) . I think I will be leaning toward a grey ceiling, and Topeka Brown is in the grey family. Its really exciting and finally hubby has a designated room for this great movie theatre. He will be building the bar and a mini concession stand. There will be 2 levels of seating , and an area for a games table because hubby has gameboard night with his brther-in-law and his buddies. I think the game is something similar to Risk... I get to do the fun stuff, like picking colors,lighting , furniture and so forth. The lighting we bought are mini pendents that go above the bar, they are clear glass tubes and inside them are mini crystals (like chandeliers). I want some bling in there! Pics to be posted cause I know you are interested! :)

I apologize for being absent for along time! Being a mother of 5 is a task in itself. They are back to school now, so I have one left at home. My 3 year old Olivia. It feels weird to have only one to watch all day. I usually had at least 2, last year it was 3 because i was watching my niece. I always had a baby in my back pocket so to speak. I am not having anymore kids, 5 is enough I guess . At only 34 years old Id say that's pretty good. Part of me wishes I had another baby, then I stop to think for a moment, slap myself silly , realize I am nuts, and move on.

So, what have I been doing ??.....Well, of course I have been soaping my heart out! This fall, I have new scent added to my regular line. Cranberry Balsam, 7up pound cake, and Blue Raspberry are to name a few. Back this fall are Pink Lady, Sinfully Iced cinnamon, Candy Cane. Foaming Whipped Sugar Scrubs are being sold in 4oz jars. Ice cream Cupcake soaps are back in stock (they are 7-8 oz in weight) Raspberry Buttercream, KeyLime, Buttercream Frosting .

Also, I have been busily painting our Powder Room, and Master Bath in Benjamin Moore Grey Wisp. It is a spot on duplicate to Restoration Hardware Silver Sage. The Powder Room is done. I added a beveled glass star purchased from Urban Barn. Looks pretty!

I have been trying to do a full blown decorating project with our master bedroom as well. It was bare and just had our massive king size 4 poster bed. We bought only the bed from the Better Homes And Garden collection Modern Outlook. It was a steal at $600! We bought the floor model at a furniture store that was closing out. We recently ordered bedside tables that compliments the bed perfectly. So, so far over the weekend I purchased 4 -94" inch drapes from Urban Barn, 2 Lamps (as pictured) from Bowring, and a shade pendant light with crystals from Homesense that cost $79.99 CDN that looks exactly like this Horchow chandelier: John-Richard

"Get out of town !", you say? (cough,cough) $2,000 for that or $79.99 for mine? I love Homesense!!! So ladies, I'm not finished blowing the bank... I have yet to buy bedding, and I am on the hunt for a bench...preferably a zebra print, silver studded one with dark wood barley twist legs. Did I make that up?? Last year, I bought a starburst mirror from homesense that I absolutely loved for 29.99 and its on my wall as well. Can you picture this room? I was going to repaint it in the Grey Wisp like our master bath but decided to hold off. I like the tones in the room right now . The paint that was used in our master bedroom was Netsuke from Sherwin Williams Paint. Its a nice neutral color, with a greenish undertone.

The Master bath has a mirror that I am picking up this weekend (as pictured) It is stunning! All beveled glass.

Next to soap making, I love home decorating!!

Summer Holidays Puts Me Behind

Ohhhh! The summer holidays has put me behind on my blog entries. That happened last year..not one blog entry all summer. So far the summer has been very interesting. We went camping for 3 days. The kids have had sleepovers and we went to alot of movies so far.

My husband sprained his foot badly last week, that was very bad let me tell you. Um, I had a garage sale last weekend and made about $190 dollars. It was from 10am-3pm. So, not bad considering I am not missing the junk. My sister made $20 (haha) , but she didn't really bring a whole lot. My mom made $25, she was happy. My sister loves garage sale shopping....she, my mom and my aunt left ours to go to another one in the area and mom came back with dishes. Obsessed or what!

I love garage sales shopping too , but my husband hates them ,hence, I haven't been to one in a decade. Really!

My sister and I are obsessed with all things shabby chic and vintage. Even though my new home is not decorated like that, I still have some elements of vintage . I would call my taste Modern Vintage/Classic.

One store here in Winnipeg that is a treasure is the Winnipeg's Old Revival House Company http://oldhouserevival.com/. 3 floors of fabulous vintage / antiques. It is neatly crammed with tons of stuff. You need hours and hours to go through everything. So far I bought a red vintage kids wooden ironing board, a vintage child's watering can shaped like a swan, and a vintage green recipe card holder with old recipes inside. These items where meant for a playhouse I want built in the backyard but I haven't found anyone willing to build it. I have already bought 3 windows , window boxes and shutters for it. they are collecting dust as we speak. This is something I wanted for a very long time, ever since my first born. Now, 5 kids later still no playhouse...My goal is to get one by the end of the summer...:)

First Communion

My middle child Emma, will have her 1ST Communion Sunday. I am busily preparing for that and boy, am I busy. The food I have yet to plan out, but it will be dinner.

This is the third communion we've done, so this occasion is no stranger to us.

As you can see, I have posted the dress that I bought. It is a Christie Helene dress that retailed for $450. But, of course I didn't pay that for goodness sake. Whenever I need a special occasion dress for the girls, and I want a designer that we cant get here ...I go to the land of Ebay. Ebay is like my best friend. I purchased this dress new, tags and all..crispy white untouched for 29.99 US dollars..Can you believe that. What is so amazing is it fits my daughter to a tee and she looks like an angel. I am so thrilled with this purchase. She is also wearing a pearl headband (no veil). Cant wait to see her in it all.

This is what I read the other day and I truly believe it :

If you're going to get infected by bacteria, it's not the 99.9% that's going to make a home out of you - it's the rare 0.1% that's dangerous. Consumers who purchase and use products that contain antibacterial chemicals, such as triclosan, kill off the weak, harmless bacteria (99.9%) and ensure the really bad 0.1% survive to multiply in your bathroom and elsewhere - sometimes millions per day.
The practice of overusing antibacterial chemicals enriches numbers of dangerous bacteria in normal populations - effectively "selecting" them - which increases our chances of getting sick or infected by strains that antibiotic drugs are increasingly ineffective against.

This is not something that the mass marketeers tell you about because sensationalizing that all bacteria are bad sells their product.

Bacteria are everywhere and most are harmless. All of them compete for the same resources to survive, but killing the harmless ones allows the harmful strains to flourish like fast-growing weeds in a freshly tilled field. A reasonable daily personal care routine using natural soaps is adequate to protect you from these dangerous bacteria. These strains are rare, and we need to keep them that way. Craft Show was Wonderful

Thank you to all those who made this year's spring show a success.

Here are some pictures of my display, and the counter I was talking about the other day. It was so much fun, and I even got my dad and uncle to mind the booth while I made a trip to the cotton candy counter for my kids. I tell you, my dad and uncle were quite funny. I saw my dad talking up a storm to a customer saying how wonderful my products were..(I admit I was embarrassed, and feeling like a kid again) But Daddy if you are reading this ,....never stick a Popsicle soap in a perfect stranger's face and tell them to smell it . AHHHHH!!!

I met new faces and chatted with the regulars, I had so much fun. The sugar scrubs were very successful. I sold out of 2 of the 3 flavours. The only thing I regret is not having a wash station..but I will have that come the next large show. Margarita and Love Bug were sell outs. The top sellers were Cherry Lemonade, Cucumber Cantaloupe, Monkey Farts, Black Raspberry Vanilla Cream...Close seconds were Pink Sugar, Fresh Laundry, Honey Bee

Craft Show in 3 days...

Well, I have been calmly getting organized...yeah right...My husband is helping me out once again. He is building me some counters for my booth where my cake plates will be out for display , and additional shelving underneath. The idea came to be when last year, he was putting together a simple pine shelf at the show. He had the shelf on its side and a light bulb went off in my tiny head. It looked like a counter if you put a piece of wood on top, then closed the back , then maybe added some planks on the bottom for shelving. Voila! So, he is putting 2 counters together using the 5 foot shelves as the main frame. So simple to put together (if your a man).
I will post some pics of it when its done.
There will be alot more room in my booth going this route...I also have my prized ladder shelf for my duckies. Didn't have time to repaint it though....its a cherry red. Remember that project last year? He made that for me.
I love my hubby :)

Weather is looking up

It's still too cold for spring but at least its sunny. There is still snow on the ground and of course icy patches everywhere. I think Spring is going to skip us really....It will go from -15 to + 30 over night I am sure of it. Sometimes I wonder why I ended up in this cold place.

The hubby and I are shopping around for patio furniture and a barbecue. Didn't realize how expensive these things cost. We want a sofa, chairs and coffee table arrangement and also a table ,umbrella and 6 chairs. So far Walmart is the least expensive but also they looked really nice. Costco was a crazy amount, Rona was expensive too. We have Canadian Tire and Home Depot left.

Also in the works is a mudroom. We have a new home, its custom built but one thing that we failed to think of when building was a proper mudroom. In the house plans there is one, we have one technically but it is is space that's been wasted . So our plan is to take out the back closet, put a wall up and voila... the mudroom that was supposed to be there in the first place. In the original plans there was a door leading to it but we decided not to put that wall up..(big mistake)

So, eventually we will have someone come in and see if we can do this. Would have saved us alot of headaches if this was done in the first place....My ideal mudroom is cubbies,shelving,hooks,and a bench intergrated in all this. The space we have to work with is 6 x 8 so , I am sure its doable.

Craft Show in 3 weeks

The Scattered Seeds craft show is in 3 weeks time. My sister who is a Tim Horton's coffee junkie, will have a booth right next door to me. Her Company Name is Little Sara Soda..She sells trendy boutique quality accessories for children

like Bibs, blankets, hair accessories, and taggie blankies. We've done so many shows together over a span of ten years(even longer), But this one is her first Juried large show. It is a 10 x 10 booth She's really excited and so am I. Last year, she helped me at my booth...Remember, she was the one who ran after a toddler to another soap booth and secretly gave this girl a free soap ....then mom comes back with kid and ear in hand and thinks her baby girl is a kleptomaniac? Ahhh those were the good old days. I have some advice to her ,and to all you crafters who do this for a living,...Dont ask your buying customer.." Are you sure you wanna buy all this??" "Your not buying that out of pitty are ya?"...

You can think it but dont pull a Homer Simpson and actually say it outloud! OF course they want to buy it silly!!

Hello! Long time no hear....I have been working away at getting my soaps made and packaged for the big Scattered Seeds Winnipeg Craft Show. It is a 4 day show and I am very excited. They look different every year...This year I stacked 3 different soaps and wrapped them with dot ribbon and attached my business card to them .. CUTE!! So today I was thinking back to my childhood years, Christmas time to be exact. A few things that I enjoyed being around, that my mom brought out every year is a wind up Santa that played music. I loved this thing .

As a child I would pick at the little sack that Santa was carrying. It had a small wrapped foiled present in his tulle looking sack...I thought there was a real present inside. Eventually , I teared a hole in it trying to get in it. Now I know what little kids are thinking when they "destroy" our things. Now I see that sometimes are kids aren't intentionally being destructive.

I found my Santa today on Ebay, and will purchase him. I cant wait to bring him back home.

Another item I am looking for is the Plastic Church that my mom always was proud to display every year. I loved this this thing too, I actually thought there could be people in it when she lit it. It was musical too and I plan to find one and have it out for this year.

Another 2 Birthdays Under my Belt...

Yesterday we threw Olivia's 2nd birthday and Emma's 7th birthday together. We had 37 family members come, it was a great party. The Night before I stayed up until 2 am making 2 birthday cakes, 2 mini birthday cakes (one for my Aunt nad one for my hubby mike), and 24 cupcakes. They turned out fantastic..I must say I am very proud of myself. It was the first time making birthday cakes. Emma was feeling under the weather and missed most of her birthday, poor thing. She was up for presents and cake. They both recieved so many beautiful clothes and toys. Today is Olivia's real birthday..We have no plans realy. It is a holiday today, nothing is open , and it is super gloomy outside. It is raining all day today, :(

School starts up again Wednesday, so I will be getting ready for that . It will be somewhat quiet again but I will still have the 2 youngest at home and my neice Hanna.

A Surprising Call

I received a phone call early evening of a best friend of mine, Judy,whom I haven't seen or spoken in years. I was thrilled to hear from her and so relieved that she found me. I tried a few times to find her . She was unlisted and not registered in Facebook (yes, I tried Facebook)

Anyway, we talked for about a half hour and I found out she is getting married and actually lives like minutes from me. We are practically neighbours! Her finance sounds very nice and we are inviting them over sometime next week. I am very happy to have reconnected with her!

The Big 40!

Happy Birthday to my husband Mike who turn 40 today! Hes not so excited about this milestone, but he looks yummy good nontheless!

I havent seen hime this morning, he snuck out of bed early to head to work. He had a week off, and during that time we headed to Fargo, North Dakota for 3 days of shopping bliss. Yes, Fargo...It is 2.5 -3 hours away from Winnipeg and they have Target. I love Target!

We also put in our grass during that time too! We have a yard!!! Yeah! We are working on the fence details now, and perhaps get a deck built. The playhouse that I so dream of for the kids, is sort of on hold. I did buy a plan at Lowes when we were in Fargo. I may have it built this year but not sure. Today I made some Cookie Dough Soap. The top is a creamy whipped oatmeal topping, and inside are hand cut chunks of "chocolate". My home was filled with the sweet smell of cookies.

It is a beautiful bar of oh so good soap!

Ok, so I had a busy weekend. Sunday, we all went to my husband's Aunty Betty's cottage in Petersfield. It is a year round home that is not your typical cottage. Very modern and beautiful. Gorgeous lakefront, glorious views. It was a warm sunny day and we had so much fun. The kids didn't want to leave. They were playing in the sand from 2pm until we left which was about 8:30 pm. Long time!!

I also made some whipped lemon bars this past weekend. They are tdf. I

don't know if I will be selling them on etsy, but they may appear during my shows this fall. I have been adding my bar shapes again, but nothing compares to my loaves . Over the years, my loaves always out sell my bars. People just like the idea of hand cut bar maybe?? I would hand cut right in front of them, but over time I switched to displaying on cake plates so people can see and smell, then have everything prepackaged. It got too busy to do the cutting in front and then packaging.

I have been recently including in my orders as a thank you, the chocolate mint parfait bars. It kind of reminds me when you go to a restaurant, you get a mint as a "thank you"..or when you go to a nice hotel ,they put a chocolate on your pillow as a thank you...

Well, its Friday, yippie! This weekend I plan to figure out which craft shows Ill be in. I know Ill be in the juried Scattered Seeds Show in October, I plan on being in The Festival of Lights Show and waiting to hear if I'm in another big show. I think Ive figured out what soaps will be in this Christmas. I am going to choose 8 -10 scents in the loaves. So far I am certain that pumpkin souffle,mistletoe kisses, chocolate chip cookie dough will be in.

For the Popsicles, I choose 3 different ones.

This year decided to do a Christmas sampler. Those samplers bags always sell out. They are cute and reasonably priced.

The photo that is posted here, is a custom order . This "shoe" soap was custom made for a lady who had a tea room/gift shop in the States. So cute, it smelled glorious. It turned out so darn cute I had to share.

Playhouse crazy

So all I have been thinking of besides soaps is a playhouse. I have been wanting one for my kids for a long time now. Mind you , I have a Step 2 Sweetheart playhouse ,but Im talking about a outdoor wooden outdoor one with a porch. A new one would cost in the thousands.

I have also been searching for used ones , maybe something that has good bones that I can turn into a dream playhouse. I recently came across this playhouse that I posted here in the classifieds, that I have been thinking about. I feel it has good bones, it is structurely sound. It is an ugly duckling of playhouses. I think it has great potential. I also have the kidkraft kitchen that I also posted,I was planning to move that in . My husband could have his den back!

I have begun my sketches on this. Gingerbread trim, porch pickets, a door, window grilles, yikes! Its a looker! Asking amount is $250 which I feel is still too much to ask, but I could talk him down. I have 2 big concerns:

1- How the hell would I get it from his yard to mine? 8 people and a flatbed truck I do not have.

2- It is u-g-l-y..What would the neighbours think! I have a newly constructed home, the yard is a mess because we are landscaping ect... If I plopped this puppy in the yard for all to see ,they would have a heart attack. What they wouldnt know is I would be working on it...

What do you think I should do??? Consider it or leave it??

Ok..So my double double is now being called Cinnammon Dolce Latte Soap. As I was making it , all the smells reminded me of my "regular" coffee choice when I go to Starbucks or anywhere where they have it. Its my fave! The soap turned out great. Good smell, and eye pleasing...Yum

In honour of coffee addicts (my lovely sis being one of them), I decided to make soap called DOUBLE DOUBLE..
1.
Double-double:

A Canadian term used to describe how you take your coffee - two teaspoons of sugar and two creams. Preferably used in any Tim Horton's location.

Server at your local coffee shop: Can I take your order?

You: Ya, I'll have a medium double-double.

For all of us Canadians , we know what that means! Mmmmm... The fav up here is Tim Horton's not Starbucks. I have always wanted to tackle this idea, so now is the time. We'll see it its a hit here..

Cotton Candy Soapscicles and Eye Candy Soap

Well, I was at it again...I made a few cotton candy soapscicles, and also a loaf of Eye Candy Soap. The Eye Candy Soap is definitely "eye candy"...The entire house smelled like candy. This is also a beautiful bar of soap. it is a blue jean color with a whipped top and silver glitter. The Cotton Candy Soap is delightfully vibrant with blue and pink....For this years holiday shows, I am bringing that but I will also be bringing the Orange Creamscicle.

I cut the loaf and it looks great. I make this every year, the only thing I changed for this year is I put dollops of whipped cream instead of the original cinnamon heart. This is a very large bar of soap, 6 oz.

Well, I couldn't resist bringing this soap back a whole month earlier. I have had much requests so, I am not waiting until the End of August as planned. Even if you aren't a pumpkin lover, you will fall in love with this scent. My entire house smells like I baked ! Where's the whipping cream? It smells like Christmas is around the corner...

I also finished painting the front doors ,both inside and out. I tackled the garden doors last night....Tired yet???

My goodness! I found the camera ....in the garbage!! I asked my 1 yearold Olivia ,"Where's the camera sweets??" She bolted to the garbage looked in and shrugged. She is notorious for throwing anything in the garbage. I dug and found it at the bottom. UGH!!!

Benjamin Moore Aura Paint

So, I decided to start painting the exterior doors in the house. We were supposed to have these done by a painter, but he took off and moved to Alberta without telling us or our builder....Because I am a perfectionist in some ways, I "researched" the perfect color for our doors for months. I knew I was going to do the exterior doors a black color. Not black black, but a warm black if there was such a thing. I wanted the perfect shade of a black/brown. finally, I decided on BM nightshade. It is a very deep chocolate brown, looks blackish that matches really to anything. The decorating forums raved about this color too, and it was part of the new colors for 2007. My chandelier was featured in that brochure for their dining room colors. (that's how I tracked that one down)

Anyway, I put the first coat on last night on my front door, and also did the inside of that door too. I am so pleased with the way the color looks, and also the performance of the paint itself. The 1 gallon of paint cost $65 (oh my!) and with all the other things my hubby bought to paint with , total was about $100. Small change for me because the painter charges something like 200-3000 per door!! So far, I think I did 200 % better than any painter. In fact, I am not telling family that I painted the doors myself ( hopefully they don't read my blog ) lol.

Here is why I bought this 65 dollar a gallon paint:

I will tell you, that so far I am loving this paint. It is super thick and creamy,the color is so rich and believe this ...No smell! I couldn't believe it. A paint that doesn't smell like stinky fumes. Also, it dries super fast. It was dry to the touch in a 1/2 hour. The 1 coat thing, you could I guess but I always paint 2 coats so I didn't pay much attention to trying to get it all on the first coat.

I don't have a picture posted, because I was looking for the camera yet again. I will post some pics when I find it.

Yup, Im Still Here!

Where have the days gone? I went on a 3 day camping trip last week. All 5 kids, husband living in the bush. Wasn't really so bad. It was fun, but 2 complaints I had was it was so cold during the night and those pesky mosquitoes! It was like the plague! If you know Winnipeg, you will know we are notorious for the mosquito thing here. Horrible!!

Luckily, we had a fantastic tent ( Cabela's Alaskan 8 person tent). This tent is the mother of all tents. It even had cup holders in every corner.

The kids had so much fun with all their cousins. I brought the kids picnic table, and set up a playdoh station. When things got hairy, we through them in the mosquito shelter with the paydoh. That was a great idea. It came in handy especially in the evening when we had the campfire.

There were 10 kids in total. My brother-in-law brought 2 of his own, and 3 nieces and nephews. Olivia, my youngest, was a real little camper. She loved it so much. All in all, a great first experience!

Now its back to soaping again! The Prim Pantry is going green! All my soaps will 100% natural , but don't worry ...same look, new ingredient list. I am always striving to make my soaps perfect, so this change was a no brainer. Right now, there will be no price change.

Peppermint Sticks Soapscicle

Pepeprmint is always a best seller, strong and yummy. This will become available now, and will stay right through until after Christmas. The middle part of the soap feautres a beautiful sparkle of silver cosmetic glitter. It really is pretty!

What's Happening?

Father's Day was great yesterday. Lots of action! If you go back and read my Mother's Day post, that pretty much sums it up in the morning only the tables were turned. It felt like deja-vu really.

On Saturday I set up my space at the Keepsakes Gallery. I met Joyce the owner, she's really nice and welcoming. The space is fantastic, nicely organized and makes you want to shop. I believe there are 80 Manitoban artists featured. Everyone googled my soaps and were really excited. I hope my soaps do well there. One gal sells neat plaques and stuff that have quotes on them then pictures of cats and such. Whimsical looking I would describe these to be...Hallmark (yes thee Hallmark) has purchased a ton and continues to do so from her. She is the only artist in Canada that Hallmark has contacted. Wow! You just never know sometimes.

Kepsakes Gallery is located in Winnipeg's Exchange District . The name "Exchange District" comes from the Winnipeg Grain Exchange, the hub of Canada's grain industry, as well as other industry exchanges - all of which transformed Winnipeg into the "Chicago of the North" from 1881 to 1918. Today, the Exchange District is a National Historic Site that encompasses 20 city blocks and is composed of nearly 150 buildings. I may do some weekends at the local St. Norbert Farmers Market. I have always wanted to do that so that may be something on my list this summer. Also something to note, I am adding soap that is 100 % natural. Same fun, yummy look! Just catering to those who won't use anything else but natural.

I have some new Fragrances that just arrived. They smell like a few of Lush's soaps but way better. Sure to be a favorite of many!

Well, It was my son's 8th birthday party yesterday. It was great as usual! He received lots of nice clothing and toys. That one eyed toy he got from his Auntie Lidia was an Etsy purchase . How cute He loved it! I made cupcakes this time around. I stayed up until 11pm doing them, while my kids were pulling on my pant leg. I also was roasting red peppers in the oven. How fun!This was our family party yesterday..I still have to do his friends party, which I am dreading.

Schools out in a few weeks, we are also going camping for a few days in July. Yes...all of us (5 kids and me and hubby) First time doing that. I am looking forward to it, I need a pink Swiss army knife or something , pink machete mabye? LoL

Here is a picture of my niece Kayla that was sent from my sister via email this morning. She is bathing with my soap "pink lady". Looks like she is having a blast! I received other pictures too, one where she is reading a magazine from the potty..the other was another potty picture looking proud.(don't worry ..no potty pics are being posted) Then there was one where she was helping my sister with the gardening. What was funny about that one is she is potting plants in a helmet..A dangerous job no doubt!

Rasberry Zinger Debut

Here is my Raspberry Zinger Soap! It looks, smells and performs amazing! This will be a permanent part of my line. Who doesn't like the smell of raspberries and butter cream? The color turned out amazingly on this one ..very rich looking.

I am starting to think about Christmas now. Mistletoe Kisses is returning once again ;I usually bring that out Sept/October and have it available until Jan. Its a huge hit,and I can never keep that in stock. Candy Cane is another. Pumpkin Souffle comes out in August(everyone loves that). My signature fragrance Cranberry Spice is available all year round, but does extremely well during the fall and winter. I am introducing a few new ones for fall/winter. I am not going to say because it is very exciting and I am going to keep it a secret :D

Raspberry Zingers and Bubble Gum

Today I am working on my Rasberry Zinger soap. This is the most delicious scent I have come across. You will want to eat this baby up. It is a true raspberry scent, with a hint of buttercream. I couldnt stop smelling myself today. I have bubblegum listed in my shop, it is fun to look at, smells so good. I have so much fun with that in my shower. Smells like a heaping mound of that bazooka gum I chewed as a kid. My 11 year old couldnt believe the smell of it, she asked me how did I do that! I said magic..lol

Afternoon all! Its been a few days but I am busy with a few wholsale orders (Bubble Gum Soap mmm), plus Mikey is turning 8 this weekend, so I am busily trying to figure out what to make for his family party. Food is an important part of our culture (Italian/Spanish), so 80 percent of the planning has to do with what to serve. If it were up to my husband, he would have coffee and cake ..thats it. That would not go over well with my side of the family. His side is fairly laid back, they dont really care one way or another. After 12 years (goig on 13) of marriage, my husband still questions the amount of food I buy for parties and we always get into an argument over it. Although I agree I have learned from my mother she taught me to go "overboard" with the food. To me , good food= a good party. Maybe its a European thing? By the way, that is my mom in the picture. This was taken when me, my husband and my 5 kids lived with my parents for 6.5 months while our dream home was being built. Good lord, she looks awfully happy there. I think this was taken near the end of the 6.5 months....lol.
